Why do we need the ERA today?

A law is only as strong as its constitutional footing. Laws affecting American women have not had a constitution that included them, other than in the right to vote. Those protective laws have been eroded, repealed, and ignored in a constant stream of court cases brought by women looking for equal justice. Rights of American women have been held hostage to political gameplay, religious bias and powerful business interests. The ERA will correct that inequity. Its absence is felt at the heart of most serious issues facing women today.

Four of those crucial issues are gender pay gap, violence against women, workplace discrimination, and healthcare discrimination.
