Thank you for taking time to contact Republican members of the Legislature who are responsible for blocking LD433! We hope the following talking points will be helpful in contacting as many legislators as possible.

  • The people of Maine should be allowed to decide whether or not to add an Equal Rights Amendment to the State Constitution.  Mainers have a right to to express their opinion via referendum in November 2020.

  • An Equal Rights Amendment would ensure that men and women receive equal protection under the law. Twenty-six states have passed Equal Rights Amendments, and it is time for Maine to do the same.

  • An Equal Rights Amendment would benefit ALL Mainers by advancing protection against all forms of sex discrimination, including pay equity, workplace discrimination, sexual violence, and health insurance and pension equity.

  • An Equal Rights Amendment is necessary because existing laws against sex discrimination are incomplete and can be overturned.
