Meeting Notes from Equal Rights Maine Steering Committee Meeting

Monday, July 10th, 2017

Susan Snider, Sherry Streeter, Robin Lincoln, Linda Nelson, Sally Stone, Posie Cowan, Leda Beth Gray, Nancy Murdock

Networking and Contacts (Susan and Robin): a meeting with Nancy to coordinate Contacts list(s) is planned for Monday, July 17th at Robin’s house.

Susan reported that the Aramoosik People's Alliance (Amy Thompson) is holding a gathering on October 15th at the Bucksport Elementary School, 1-3pm. Susan is going to represent us and asked if anyone else would be able to join her.

Posie hosted the Maine NEW Leadership's Mary Cathcart with two colleagues, in a meeting to exchange information about their group and ours. (Took place on July 11th - good meeting)

There will be a Maine Women's Summit on Economic Secutiry on October 13th in Augusta.

Advocacy with Legislators (Sally and Linda): contact with all elected representatives will resume in the fall.

Calls to Action (Posie and Leda Beth): nothing foreseen for this summer

Press (Nancy and Leda Beth): An Equality Day (August 26) piece is planned for the BDN and EA (suggestions for content are welcome – send to Nancy)

Facebook and Website maintenance and design (Sherry, Jean and Nancy): A Newsletter format will be developed, to post on both sites – this team can meet later to discuss and design!

Stonington Opera House Equal Means Equal showing (Sept 14th) - with Grace Gregor's assistance

Blue Hill Library Equal Means Equal showing (Sept 20th) and

Follow-up Workshop Discussion (September 27th)

White Papers and Workshops: (Nancy and Susan, with ‘additional editors’ LB and Sally)

Workshop #2: Equality Issues/Current legislation/Constitution – time TBD

New Ideas:

Retreat for Equal Rights Maine steering committee is planned for September 12th with Martha as facilitator at Sherry’s house. Bring your thoughts, notes, ideas for the future of Equal Rights Maine.

Newsletter will take the place of the detailed Meeting Minutes, to keep our larger membership informed and engaged with us.

Website Calendar could be used as a shared document (like the Networking Log) to post upcoming events.

Next Meetings will be the September 12th retreat, a possible October 16th or 17th and then a firm Nov 13th.
